Detroit Pistons @ Chicago Bulls | 1991 Playoffs | ECF Game 1: The statement game

Before a deafening crowd of 18676 fans at Chicago Stadium, the Bulls defeated the Pistons, 94ᇧ, in the opening game of the four-of-seven-game Eastern Conference championship series. Jordan, whose election as the league's most valuable player will be announced Monday, was held to 22 points, 9 points below his playoff average, on 6-for-15 shooting along with three boards, three steals and six assists. But Jordan's teammates stepped forward -- the Bulls' bench combined for 30 points and starters Scottie Pippen (18 points), Bill Cartwright (16 points) and Horace Grant (10 rebounds) stood up to Detroit's physical play, holding off the Pistons whenever they threatened to take control. "I had a bad game, but we still won," Jordan said afterward. "I think that shows the maturity of our team. I think this shows them that we've got a team, instead of a one-man situation." Today's game set the tone for the remainder of the series. There was very little open-court play, and there were very few scintillating offensive moves. This series will be physical. Bodies will fly. Tempers will flare. Skin will bleed. Character will be tested. There were times away from the ball when the action resembled a rugby scrum. Players shoved, held and did whatever else they felt they could get away with. "It's a different style of ball when you play us," said Mark Aguirre, who led the Pistons with 25 points. "They're not going to be able to play us like Philly, where they got a lot of running and ...

LeBron wants the greatest of all time, he wants to become a global icon, he will be king, but he has no evidence that he will work to actually achieve those things shown. Instead of the off-season working on developing low-post game or a mid-range violation, he spent his time developing his media machine. He knows that the key to being an all-time great is to win titles, but he thinks it is a shortcut to it.

Thank you for this video. It takes me immediately to see these games as a child in Chicago. What a truly great era in the NBA and basketball (not to mention my 13 years). LeBron had a chance to do it is for Cleveland.Il his own master, with the right to make their own decisions, however. . . Wow, what a missed opportunity.

@ Purepeche231 – “I do not see the cops beat Laker team of 91 health care this year.” Part of the game is to stay healthy the entire season. Do not get me wrong, I love the Lakers, and I am sure that the 1980 Lakers (Kareem first, the young op) and 1985 Lakers (Finals MVP Kareem), the team would toast Bulls.Pensez advance. In 1985, Robert Parish, Kareem could not stop. Do you think Robert Parish in 1996 were to a prayer against Kareem in 1980?

@ Eadymike I totally agree. I think that basketball is not the only sport where the average skill level dropped. I think its sad that it’s all about money now, where before it seemed that it was more for the love of the game

Wow, if this game is now Detroit have at least 20 glaring errors. Check out the physical defense by the Detroit Pistons on MJ. The golden age of the NBA. Today the players a bunch of wimps and star are spoiled babies to touch, and you get an error message or worse still a blatant penalty

I prefer these old games on here to see that today, sports on television. This is how the NBA has declined.

You know how they say that Dennis a master of entering the minds of people was mentally used? I do not agree. I think MJ was the master of this. play clock 03.34. Dennis J. had polluted the previous baskets. Playing on the results of Dennis J. and plugged it into the tire and returned to tell him. On defense, Dennis has already lost his mind and seeking physical contact with DOJ and grows and gets his face. MJ no longer go down. .
